A type of mobile in the pancreas. In the pancreas, the beta cells are situated in areas labeled as the islets of Langerhans in which they constitute the predominant types of cell. The beta cells make and launch insulin, a hormone that manages the amount of glucose (sugar) within the blood. Deterioration of the beta cells is the primary cause of type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus.
