Paralysis of the nerve that supplies the facial muscle tissue on a single region of the face (the seventh cranial nerve, or facial nerve). Bell's palsy frequently starts suddenly. The reason can be a viral infection. Treatment includes protecting the eye regarding the affected side from dryness while sleeping. Massage of affected muscle tissue can reduce tenderness. Sometimes cortisone medicine, including prednisone, is given to lower inflammation throughout the first days of disease. The perspective is generally good; the vast majority of patients retrieve within weeks or months.
