The Baykok is a character from Anishinaabe aadizookaan, that is said to fly although woodlands of the Great Lakes area. The cries of Baykok may described as being shrill. Called "Death" inside Song of Hiawatha, it is stated to appear as an extremely emaciated skeleton-like figure, with slim clear skin and shining red points for eyes. The Baykok just preys upon warriors, but does therefore ruthlessly, making use of invisible arrows or beating its prey to death with a club. The Baykok, after paralyzing or killing its prey, then devours the liver of the sufferer.
