one of several two known receptors in the endocannabinoid (EC) system linked to the intake of food and tobacco dependency. Preventing the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CNR1) may decrease dependence on cigarette and food craving. The gene encoding CNR1 is situated in chromosome region 6q14-q15. Also called the CB1 receptor or CB1. Thus far, medications that block this receptor have not been been shown to be very theraputic for smoking cessation.
