Infection of breast muscle generally caused by bacteria, most often staph (Staphylococcus aureus), which are located on the epidermis and go into the breast through a break in skin or nipple, as during breast-feeding. The contaminated breast might swollen, hot, reddened, and painful. There may be low-grade temperature. Treatment includes warm damp compresses and antibiotics.
