writ. A genuine writ. A writ or precept of master issuing regarding their courts. A writ in which one is summoned or attached to respond to an action, grievance, etc., or wherein everything is commanded to be done in the courts, so that you can justice, etc. Its known as "breve," from the brevity of it, and is dealt with either towards the defendant himself, or even to the chancellors, judges, sheriffs, or any other officials.
