meaning of Ankle sprain

Ankle sprain meaning in Medical Dictionary

a standard musculoskeletal injury where ligaments associated with foot partly or totally rip because of sudden stretching. This typically occurs when the ankle is instantly "twisted" in a sports activity or by stepping off an uneven area. The pain sensation is initially severe and may be connected with a "popping" sensation. Immediate swelling across area of damage often takes place as the injured bloodstream leak fluid to the local tissue. Limited rips retain some foot security, whereas complete tears lose stability because strapping ligaments no longer brace the ankle joint.
