Alastor meaning in Etymology Dictionary

in Greek tradition, child of Neleus, brother of Nestor, slain by Herakles. Title is perhaps literally "not to ever forget," from privative prefix a- "not" + root of lathein "to forget" (see Lethe), hence its use figuratively in sense of "an avenging nature." If not it could be connected with alaomai "to roam, roam," figuratively "becoming distraught."
