Adenomyosis meaning in Medical Dictionary

a standard, benign condition of this uterus when the endometrium (the inner uterus) grows into the adjacent myometrium (the uterine musculature located simply outside of the endometrium). The myometrium may respond to this intrusion with muscular overgrowth. If an island of endometrial structure is included within the myometrium, it forms an adenomyoma. Also referred to as endometriosis interna, endometriosis uterina, adenomyosis uteri, and adenomyometritis.
