ARRENT meaning in Law Dictionary

In old English legislation. To let or demise at a set rent. Particularly used in combination with mention of the the public domain or crown lands; as in which a license was issued to inclose land in a forest with a reduced hedge and a ditch, under a yearly lease, or in which an encroachment, originally a purpresture, was permitted to stick to the rectifying and payment of a suitable compensation into the general public for the upkeep.
