A 5.25-inch diskette is a mature diskette that very first development in 1976 and later became a typical in 1978. The diskettes had been preferred throughout the 1970's and early 1980's and they are similar to the 3.5-inch floppy diskette with a lesser capacity and larger dimension. Unlike their rigid, 3.5" alternatives, the 5.25-inch diskettes are flimsy.
